Buffle doré – The Golden Ox

Original text of Saint-Louis:
An iron grey ox rests on a starry-patterned red and white millefiori background. Peach blossoms dotted with dewdrops bloom beside it. The saturated green of its lead recalls the springtime palette of the leaves surrounding it. In the golden version of this same design, the surface is adorned with a cloud motif in 24 carat gold. A gentle and sympathetic animal, the fabled ox comes down from the sky to work the fields in aide of men suffering from famine. He brings with him joy and abundance, symbolized by the spring peach blossoms that bloom all around him. His celestial origin is recalled by the stars of the millefiori and the golden cloud motif.
